Hoodies, shades, a cassette player & more: Taking a peek at what film studios send critics during awards season

Some studios get pretty creative in their attempts to get their films noticed

Movie awards season is intense, crazy and exhausting -- especially for film critics.

With multiple ceremonies taking place -- all leading up to the Academy Awards -- studios are working hard to get their films noticed by critics.

That means some “interesting” promotional items will be coming in the mail.

Movie studios send all kinds of stuff to help get their films noticed. DVD screeners, soundtracks and screenplays are par for the course.

The folks behind “Saltburn” took things up a notch with a limited-edition coffee table book filled with photos, foldouts and stories about the production.

But other studios got even more creative.

For “Poor Things,” Searchlight Pictures sent sunglasses similar to the ones worn by Emma Stone’s character.

Meanwhile, in the film “Air,” Ben Affleck sported futuristic shades, so a pair arrived in the official gift box sent by Amazon, along with a sweatshirt, a cassette soundtrack and a vintage, Walkman-style cassette player befitting the movie’s 1980s setting.

For the prep school comedy/drama “The Holdovers,” the gift box included a school sweatshirt, a signed greeting card and cookies containing memorable quotes from Paul Giamatti’s character.

With the swimming drama “Nyad,” Netflix decided: What could be more perfect than movie-themed quick-dry bath towels?

The movie studio A24 decided to promote a bunch of their releases with one big gift box. Among the items were a framed wedding photo of Elvis and his bride from “Priscilla,” apology cards for “You Hurt My Feelings” and a nice bottle of rice wine for the Asian-themed romantic drama “Past Lives.”

And for Nic Cage’s sleep comedy “Dream Scenario,” how about some spiffy eye shades?

And finally, for the smash hit “Barbie,” Warner Bros. sent a lovely gift box with some affirmation in the form of a rainbow tie-dyed Ken-centric hoodie that says: “I am Kenough.”
