Going Ringside Ep. 74: How the RNC turned into a wrestling show

We document how a major political convention turned into a show highlighted by pro wrestling & UFC

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A fascinating thing -- from a wrestling fan’s perspective -- happened at the Republican National Convention. The final night, which is the big one, was filled with stars from pro wrestling and UFC.

Specifically three primary speakers: Hulk Hogan, Linda McMahon and Dana White.

Why this matters: It shows the sheer cultural influence of these forms of entertainment.

And there might be a major link to the Going Ringside podcast. Look at this video Going Ringside sent to the Trump campaign in late 2023. It’s a clip from our episode on Donald Trump’s History in Pro Wrestling. We sent this short clip with an open invite to the former President to come on Going Ringside and discuss his history in wrestling -- no politics.

What’s fascinating is we sent this to the campaign as an “unlisted” video -- meaning only the people who get the link can see it. And as of the RNC starting, it had 29 views. Notice the celebs we mention in the video: Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock, Dana White and Vince McMahon.

Then notice who spoke on the final night of the RNC: Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock, Dana White and Linda McMahon (Vince’s wife). Coincidence? We honestly don’t know here at Going Ringside.

On this episode, we will roll the three primary speeches in their entirety from Hogan, Linda McMahon and White.
