The Baptist Health ‘Buddy Bus’ brings mammograms right to you

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Doctors recommend that women over age 40 get a mammogram every year and maybe even sooner if you have a family history of breast cancer.

Busy lives can make scheduling that crucial appointment challenging but Baptist Health is making it easier.

Baptist Health’s Mobile Mammography Bus called the “Buddy Bus” brings mammograms to you.

The bus is staffed with registered technologists to perform the exams and then board-certified, dedicated breast radiologists read the exams.

3D mammograms are offered on the bus. 3D mammograms help enhance the detection of breast cancer. They bring together multiple images of the breast to create a 3D image that can be reviewed by a radiologist one section at a time.

How long does a mammogram take? Usually about 15 minutes, but typically it’s about 30 minutes for your whole appointment on the Buddy Bus, which includes check-in.

Is it painful? Getting a mammogram shouldn’t be painful. There may be brief discomfort but absolutely no pain.

Why are mammograms important? Annual mammograms can help detect breast cancer in very early stages - when the cancer is most treatable.
