Local physicians get ready to take over dancefloor at Dancing with the Doctors for children’s cancer research

Event to honor Maya Dronca, 8-year-old who died from brain tumor in 2021

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Ten local physicians will strut their stuff for an amazing cause Saturday.

The 2nd Annual Maya Dronca Foundation Dancing with the Doctors to Benefit Pediatric Cancer is taking over the dance floor and one will win the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy.

However, the biggest win will be the number of dollars raised for vital children’s cancer research.

Dr. Roxana Dronca, Maya’s mother and a medical oncologist at Mayo Clinic and the Chair of the Division of Hematology-Oncology, as well as the Site Director of the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center in Florida, talked to News4JAX during the Morning Show on Saturday about Maya and the dancing event, which was created in honor of her daughter who passed away from a brain tumor in April 2021.
