JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – St. Luke's Hospital, Florida's oldest private hospital, is changing its name to St. Vincent's Medical Center Southside.
The hospital said the change will better link its network with a common brand identity under the St. Vincent's HealthCare name and mission.

St. Luke's became part of St. Vincent's HealthCare in 2008.
"While we are mindful and respectful of our longstanding heritage, we feel this change is necessary to further strengthen the St. Vincent's HealthCare brand," said Donnie Romine, president of St. Vincent's Medical Center Southside. "We want people to know this does not take away our identity or reputation in the community. On the contrary, we hope the name unifies our mission and gives our associates another reason to be proud to work here."
St. Luke's Hospital was founded in 1873 by three women who saw the need for medical care in the community.
"The name change comes at a time of immense growth for St. Vincent's HealthCare. The system is preparing to open a third hospital in Clay County in the fall of 2013," said Moody Chisholm, president and CEO of St. Vincent's HealthCare.
The new St. Vincent's Southside sign will go up on the hospital building facing Butler Boulevard in the next few weeks. The name change is effective immediately.
