The left side of his face is wrinkled and thicker than his right side from years of the sun shining on his face as he drove. His condition is called unilateral dermatoheliosis.
The man also has extensive skin thickening and sagging caused by the destruction of the elastic fibers on one side of his face, according to the Journal.
To protect yourself against ultraviolet radiation, the Centers for Disease Control says to seek shade, especially during midday hours; wear protective clothing; wear a hat with a wide brim to shade the face and head; and, use sun screen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
Dr. Cynthia Anderson, a radiation oncologist, said tinted windows protect from the heat, but it's unknown whether it protects from the sun's dangerous rays.
