Does a lunar eclipse make you loony?

No description found

Wednesday's lunar eclipse may have some people thinking that it can make us, "loony." But the fact of the matter is, experts say there is no evidence linking lunar events to human behavior- good or bad.  Clinical psychologist Dr. Scott Bea with Cleveland Clinic says a lunar eclipse may blow your mind, but won't affect it.

"There's no solid connection that suggests the moon is influencing us. It may influence tides, but it doesn't influence our human bodies nearly to the degree that some would like to believe," he said.

Bea says the links between the moon and bad behavior start with the word "lunar."
"Lunatic" and "lunacy" are derived from the word lunar, which is the Latin word for moon. Some also think the gravitational pull from the moon may cause behavioral changes.

Since water makes up 75 percent of the human body, many figured the moon could influence us like it influences tides. But, scientists have never been able to prove it. There have also been studies examining the link between lunar phases and births, deaths, violence, seizures and suicides, but no connections.

Bea says instead of worrying about what the eclipse might cause us to do, it's healthier just to sit back and enjoy the show.

"Why not enjoy something like a lunar eclipse rather than searching for difficult events that are occurring and suspecting that it's related to the eclipse. Just enjoy these phenomena," he said.
