LifeSouth in need of blood donations before Nicole hits

File photo

LifeSouth urges regular and first-time donors to give blood as soon as possible because Nicole, which is expected to be a hurricane before making landfall in Florida, will increase the need for donations.

Patients rely on blood donations from healthy individuals. Donating ensures blood will be available to help those who may be injured or need a blood transfusion to survive.

Currently all blood types are needed. LifeSouth supplies blood to 70% of Northeast Florida’s hospital beds, including Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center Nassau, Baptist Medical Center South, HCA Florida Memorial Hospital, HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital, UF Health Jacksonville, UF Health North and Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

All blood donors receive a wellness screen prior to donation, and a thank you gift. To find a blood drive close to you or to learn more about the donation process, call LifeSouth’s toll-free number, 1-888-795-2707 or make an appointment at www.lifesouth.org.
