Metro reports the study by scientists at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies claims tequila contains substances that improve the body's absorption of calcium and magnesium, both needed for good bone health.

The substances are found in the blue variety of the agave tequilana plant.

Scientists tested mice induced with osteoporosis, giving them agave fructans. Eight weeks later, the tested mice were found to have synthesized almost 50 percent more osteocalcin, the protein that proves the production of new bone.

Results also showed the diameter of the bones in the mice were higher.

Osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones, reportedly affects nearly 200 million people worldwide.
