One more night until things change for the Jaguars

Banners hang in downtown Cleveland announcing the NFL draft, Saturday, April 24, 2021. After going all virtual in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the three-day draft, which has grown into one of America's biggest, non-game sporting events, returns with an outdoor event and thousands of fans who will be separated by their loyalties and whether they've been vaccinated. Can you believe it?

The NFL draft is just around the corner. This is our last night of sleep before the whole direction of one of the worst franchises in the NFL does a 180 and starts winning Super Bowls every year.

That’s the hope, right?

News4Jags is pumping out one more edition before we hit the draft, and we’ll push out more content throughout draft night.

For a franchise coming off a 1-15 season (with 15 straight losses!) there has never been this much optimism entering the NFL draft. Sure, the seasons when the team was coming off of AFC championship game appearances had a different buzz. But there’s never been anticipation and expectation like there is right now for Jaguars fans.

I feel a draft

We’ve already gone over our staff mock draft. You can find our picks 1-32 here. But who are other NFL draftheads projecting to come to Jacksonville? Check out who select national media are forecasting to wind up in the 904.

Losses hurt, but helped

Last year was miserable for the Jaguars. Fifteen consecutive losses. Terrible offense. A defense that leaked like a sieve. But it also helped the Jaguars land a coach (Urban Meyer) and their quarterback of the future (soon to be Trevor Lawrence). What’s the saying? You have to break some eggs to make an omelet?

Small market doesn’t matter

Remember the national media ruminating that the small market Jaguars would stunt the commercial appeal of Trevor Lawrence to a broader audience?

Adidas. Blockfolio. Bose. Gatorade. Topps.

Those companies — with the exception of Blockfolio, who I’d never heard of before last week — seem to be a tad more prominent than the national folks would have you believe. The small market of Jacksonville doesn’t seem to have affected Lawrence’s endorsement power.

Bigger than big

Urban Meyer is pulling no punches about just how seismic the next three days of the draft are. And yes, he’s definitely a bit nervous about the getting it right.

Shining a light on 25

We all know who is going No. 1, but what about 25? That’s the million dollar question for Jaguars fans. We take a look at Jacksonville’s history at that pick and the likelihood of landing a star at that draft spot.
