Read this before you chip in for that office lottery pool

The Mega Millions jackpot is up to $627 million, the ninth largest prize in the game’s history.

But before you chip in to your office pool -- or start one yourself -- there are some important do’s and don’ts to remember.

First, designate a leader who is organized.

Also, you should receive a copy or photos of pool tickets.

And a list of everyone who chipped in so that someone can’t try and cash in on the victory after the drawing.

Now to the don’ts.

Don’t use cash. If possible, pay your pool leader with an electronic account. This way you have written confirmation of your payment.

Don’t make verbal promises: A verbal “IOU” probably won’t cut it if the pool wins and you say, “Well, I was going to pay.”

And finally, don’t get overwhelmed. It can be a lot to handle but stay calm.

You have until 10 p.m. Friday to purchase a ticket for the next drawing.
