Eva Lewis, 56, was found shot to death inside a BP gas station on State Road 16 and U.S. 1.
Police also released the 911 call made by the person who found Lewis. In it, the caller said, "It appears we just had a burglary at the convenience store next to me. The clerk's here and her head is busted open and she's not conscious."
911 operator: She's unconscious?
Caller: Yes. She's making groaning noises.
911 operator: She was robbed? Or you think she...
Caller: I believe so 'cause the cash drawer is open. There's no money and nobody came to the counter. We need some help fast.
911 operator: OK, let me get rescue on the phone. Do not hang up.
Lewis was a 16-year employee of the gas station. She was the mother of three children and grandmother of five children.
Police told Eyewitness News that a witness saw the man in the sketch at the gas station at approximately 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, the time of the murder.
He is described as a white male in his early 20s, 5 feet 6 inches, 140 pounds to 160 pounds, wearing a dark trench coat, red shirt, black pants and black shoes.
"He was driving a Chevy, low-rider style pickup truck," said St. Augustine police chief David Shoar. "We need to talk to this individual. We are at this point considering him a subject, because he could in fact be somebody that was in store very close to when the homicide occurred."
Police said identifying the man could help solve the case. Many officers knew Lewis personally, because the gas station was a frequent stop for them.
Lewis was well-loved by the community. Police said they need the community's help to solve Lewis' murder.
"Anybody that was in that area between 9:30 and 10 o'clock in the morning on this past Tuesday, Nov. 27, we're asking that they call us if they saw anything," Shoar said.
Police said they are not calling the man in the sketch a suspect, but someone they want to question in the Lewis investigation.
If you have any information concerning the case, you are asked to call the St. Augustine Police Department at (904) 825-1074.
