Teen, 24-Year-Old Killed Outside Northside Apartment

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 15-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man died Tuesday night after they were shot while eating a fast-food meal on the front porch of a Northside apartment and police are searching for two hooded gunmen seen running from the scene.

Teenager Corey Glenn died at the Highlander Apartments in the 10000 block of Monaco Drive. Daniel Hawkins died later after he was transported to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center.

Neighbors told police they heard arguing around 8:30 p.m. before several shots were fired. Police said there might have been an ongoing feud between the victims and somebody else.

Witnesses at the apartment complex told Channel 4 that both of the attackers had hoods on and that one was wearing a ski mask as they walked through the complex. They said they heard six or seven shots before seeing the men running away, eventually hopping a fence to get away.

Police said a glove recovered from that fence is a key piece of evidence.

Some witnesses said they were afraid to identify themselves after what happened last night near their homes.

"I was in my room watching TV and it happened so fast it sounded like Vietnam," said one witness.

"I could look out of my blinds and see his body laying there. It's sad black on black crime is escalating to this point," said another witness. "Something needs to be done."

The teenage victim's relatives said their loved one had never been in trouble with police.

"All this killing doesn't make sense; we're having too much," said Beverly Session, Glenn's grandmother. "Every day you pick up the newspaper; every night you turn on the news, there's a killing in the black area. People have to come together; it's got to stop."

Police said they have a lot of evidence to work toward solving the case, but ask that anyone with information that could help catch the killers to call the homicide office at 904-630-2172 or Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.

"Just come forward," Glenn's sister, Lashaunda Lipford, said. "Even if they can just answer all of our questions. If you just answer our questions that would be enough for me."
