2 Shot, 1 Dead In Apparent Home Invasion

Police Say 2 Gunman Entered Apartment About 1 A.M.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was killed and a woman hospitalized after an apparent home-invasion robbery and shooting early Thursday morning, according to police.

The incident happened just after midnight at The Commons Apartments in the 1700 block of Anniston Road.

Police said they found 21-year-old Rudolph Martin dead in a courtyard behind one of the buildings. Katherine Brook Jones, 22, was found in an apartment with a bullet wound to the leg. She was transported to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where she was reported in serious condition.

According to police, the two victims lived together in the apartment.

Witnesses told police two men with guns broke into the apartment. Police said no one is in custody in connection with the shooting and the investigation was continuing.

"This morning I was shocked when I saw the crime tape," resident Jayanna Barry said. "I have a 2-year-old son, so it is really scary."

At noon, police and evidence technicians were still at work in part of the complex cordoned off by crime-scene tape.
