JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man accused of killing his estranged wife's boyfriend and running from police for two days with a bullet wound to his abdomen pleaded not guilty Thursday morning to charges of murder, attempted murder, armed burglary and aggravated battery.
Jeffery Washington, 44, is accused of breaking into this wife's Westside apartment on May 13, fatally shooting Michael Brooks before getting shot during a struggle with his estranged wife.

Police said the couple's two young children were in the apartment at the time and likely witnessed Washington beating his wife, but not the shootings.
Washington was not in the courtroom for his arraignment. Lawyers entered a plea on his behalf.
Prosecutors said they plan to seek the death penalty if Washington is convicted.
