2nd Man Arrested In Sailor's Slaying

Police Say Man Had Set Up Burglary, Was Waiting In Getaway Car

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police have made a second arrest in the April slaying of a 40-year-old Navy man.

David Gilbert was shot and killed when he came home and found a man burglarizing his apartment. Deangelo Thomas was arrested shortly after Gilbert's slaying.

Channel 4 learned that police arrested Edgar Allen, 25, in Baker County on Wednesday and charged him with murder.

Police said Allen had set up the burglary of Gilbert's Savanna Oaks apartment on Roosevelt Boulevard and was waiting in a getaway car during the crime.

Allen is charged with murder and armed burglary.

Gilbert's death came two years after Thomas had been released from an eight-year prison term on an armed robbery conviction.

Gilbert was stationed at Naval Air Station Jacksonville.
