ORLANDO, Fla. – A 54-year-old man known as Santa Claus was arrested on suspicion of stabbing a man with a screwdriver at a 7-Eleven.

David Howard, a homeless man, was arrested Sunday on attempted homicide charges.

According to Orlando police, a man said he was eating a candy bar outside the store when a man wearing shorts and one shoe charged at him.

The man said he knew the attacker by the nickname Santa Claus and the man stabbed him several times on his chin, head and neck with a screwdriver, according to police.  Howard also said he was going to kill the victim, police said.

Orlando police said the victim told officers that Howard had previously tried to steal his ring.

Police located Howard, who said he was trying to defend himself.

Howard was arrested because his story was not consistent, police said.
