JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 23-year-old man initially believed to be the victim of a hit-and-run crash died of a gunshot wound Friday night, Jacksonville police said.
Jonathon Jarvis was found lying unresponsive in the middle of the road at West 18th Street and Moncrief Road in Northwest Jacksonville just before 10 p.m. Friday.

Police said Jarvis was reported to have been hit by a car. They said that just before that was reported, patrol officers in the area heard gunshots.
Rescuers said Jarvis had a gunshot wound to the head.
He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
