Florida's 5th Congressional District

Channel 4's viewing area includes four Northeast Florida congressional districts.

Florida's newly renumbered 5th Congressional District was little changed in the redistricting process earlier this year, still snaking from central Jacksonville down to Orlando.

Incumbent Rep. Corrine Brown drew no Democratic opponent, but faces Republican LeAnne Kolb, independent Eileen Fleming and a write-in candidate in in November.

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE TOP THREE ISSUES IN THIS RACE?

  • Jobs/economy
  • Taxes
  • Defining marriage as one man and one woman

HOW DO YOU THINK YOU CAN HELP VOTERS IN A WAY OTHERS IN THIS RACE CAN'T?

  • "This is for the answer above about convicted felons losing their voting rights...I think there would have to be an amount of felonies they had before they lost the right to vote for life.  As far as how I can help voters in a way that others running for this office can't, I have integrity and I believe that God blesses those who do what is morally right. This congressional district has suffered for a long time as the result of compromising principles for the sake of bringing money in to the district. The ill gotten gain has produced no improvement in the life of the citizens."

WHAT WOULD YOU HOPE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR ACCOMPLISHING AFTER SERVING IN THIS OFFICE?

  • "Bringing economic prosperity to the district."

POLITICAL EXPERIENCE:  "I was apolitical before that day we call 9/11 and then I became very political."

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE TOP THREE ISSUES IN THIS RACE?

  • "Foreign policies that endanger this homeland.
  • "An Economy that enriches weapons dealers VS a shrinking middle class and increasing homelessness.
  • "Elites buying up democracy and partisanship bickering that is NOT in the interests of We The People, who have been given RIGHTS we have yet to seize if we truly hold “these truths to be self-evident: That all [people] are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights...that, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among [people] deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; and, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the RIGHT of the people to ALTER or to ABOLISH it." - July 4, 1776, The Declaration of Independence."

  • HOW DO YOU THINK YOU CAN HELP VOTERS IN A WAY OTHERS IN THIS RACE CAN'T?

    • "Florida has the 3rd largest homeless population in this nation, over 62,000 people are homeless in Florida and over 53,000 homeless students were enrolled in Florida schools in 2009, and I find this unconscionable in this land of plenty."

WHAT WOULD YOU HOPE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR ACCOMPLISHING AFTER SERVING IN THIS OFFICE?

    • "Bringing Communities together and empowering the people to move beyond republican-democrats and run themselves for US HOUSE; as all the Founding Father's required to SERVE in the House of Representatives was to be at least 25 years old, a citizen for 7 years and live in the State your District is in."
