MARIETTA, Ga. – A 17-year-old shot to death after an argument over loud music outside a Jacksonville convenience store was laid to rest Saturday near where he grew up.
Folks attending the 90-minute service for Jordan Davis at Trinity Chapel God of Church in Powder Springs said it was the best way to honor the life of the 17-year old, who was tragically taken from them much too soon.
"It's just terrible. That was just terrible. That should never happen but you know things do happen," said Mark Duquesnay, a friend of the Davis family.
Bri Anderson and Samantha Williams were classmates of Jordan at Wolfson High School.
"There was nobody that didn't like Jordan, everybody was friends with Jordan," said Anderson.
While struggling to come to terms with the loss of their friend, Anderson and Williams made the drive all the way from Jacksonville to Jordan's funeral.
"The last time I spoke to him was Thursday night, on Thanksgiving," Williams said through tears. "It's just so hard because I miss him so much."
Anderson said she and their friends were still expecting Jordan to wake up.
"That was one of his jokes, you know, like, ‘Wake up,' and he'd be like, ‘Oh, you got me.' It just didn't seem real even looking at him," said Williams.
Once the funeral ended and the teenager's casket was moved into the Hearse, the processional took the body to the Kennesaw Mountain Park. According to the folks that knew Jordan, it was the perfect resting place for him.
"One of the best I've seen and I've gone to a few in my day, but this was a great one, spectacular, a lot of friends and people that came out to help," said Duquesnay.
Now that Jordan's body has been laid to rest, his father Ron Davis will head back home to Jacksonville. His mother lives in Marietta. The family has said both remain confident that justice will be served for their son and Michael Dunn will be held accountable for taking the teenager's life.
