No description found

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Friends and family said their final goodbyes to Amber Bass, who was shot and killed in her driveway last week on the Westside.

Her funeral was held at Jacksonville Memory Gardens off Blanding Boulevard, and later her family gathered at the Chili's in Fleming Island where she worked. They were encouraged people to wear bright colors in her honor.

Bass' father says it's his mission to encourage people to become more proactive in the fight against crime in Jacksonville.

"We've got to pull together and do things to deter evil because good will overcomes evil at some point, and we won't have to have this happening again," he said.

Bass spent the last day of her life with her dad. On Thursday, they took a trip to pick up a friend from the airport.

"We were just laughing and joking as we were riding down to the Orlando airport," Bass' father said. "We got back here around midnight. I kissed her goodnight. She was going off to meet some friends."

A few hours later, around 2:30 a.m., Bass pulled into the driveway of her sister's home, where she also lived. Her sister heard a gunshot and heard Bass scream. She went outside and found her in the driveway.

No one has been arrested and Bass' father said investigators are still trying to find his daughter's purse.

"We have to put the past behind us now," he said. "This is the now, what we have to do. We have just got to change some things here if we want to make our city safe and our families, because family is so important here."

If anyone has information about Bass' killing, call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
