GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville police have captured a man who they believed killed a woman inside her home on Saturday. Police were searching for Alvin "Ace" Thomas, who they considered "armed and dangerous."

GPD investigators, Alachua County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshals North Florida Fugitive Task Force conducted surveillance at a Budget Inn in Gainesville after police received information that Thomas was hiding out there.

Thomas was called out of the room by officers and agents and he complied and was arrested without incident.

Police said Thomas shot Caitlin Albritton after argument on Saturday at the Village Green Apartments at 3101 NE 15th Street.

According to the Gainesville Police Department, the two were in a prior domestic relationship and have a 9-month-old daughter together. Witnesses said they heard and saw both parties arguing in Albritton's apartment, then reported hearing a single gunshot.

Police said Albritton was about six-weeks pregnant.

GPD Spokesman, Officer Ben Tobias praised the work of everyone involved in this arrest.

"With local law enforcement and the public coming together as one force, we are now one step closer to justice for the family of Caitlin Albritton" said Tobias. "The thoughts and prayers of the entire Gainesville Police Department remain with Caitlin Albritton's family tonight."

Thomas will be interviewed by investigators before being transported to Alachua County Jail.
