NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida missing child alert had been issued for 11-year-old Jason Taylor of Callahan.
As of 5 a.m. Saturday, authorities with the Nassau County Sheriff's Office say 11-year-old Jason Taylor of Callahan was located. The child was located safely and detectives are taking the child to his father, who has court-ordered custody, according Sheriff Bill Leeper.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement had categorized Jason as endangered.
Authorities believed he was in the company of his mother, Vetta Thompson (pictured below), 40, who has hazel eyes and brown hair with blonde tips and a tattoo on her lower back.
"There have been some custody issues between the mother and estranged father," said Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper. "They were supposed to have a custody hearing in court today (Friday). She failed to show. The judge issued an order to give the child to the father and also issued an order for law enforcement to locate her and pick her up."
Leeper had said officers went to Thompson's home and several others she's known to frequent and were unable to locate her or Jason.
Leeper had said an Amber Alert has not been issued because there's currently no evidence that Jason has been harmed or is in immediate danger. But the judge believed the child could be in danger because of past issues with the mother, so a missing child alert was issued, Leeper said.
