'Drag queen' wanted in watch robbery

Surveillance photos of a man dressed as a woman who stole two watches.

A man described as being dressed as a woman is being sought in connection with a snatch-and-grab robbery early Sunday evening at a store at the St. Augustine Premium Outlets mall at the intersection of Interstate 95 and State Road 16.

Employees told St. Johns County deputies that the robber entered the business around 6 p.m. and asked to see some watches with diamonds. A clerk showed the subject a Movado watch and asked to see another. Before he returned the first watch, the robber grabbed the second watch from the clerk and ran out of the store with both watches.

The man was seen getting into a vehicle with at least two other subjects and driving away. The two watches have a retail value of just under $7,000. The suspect was described by clerks as a flamboyant black man between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall, had four gold teeth, and a spider-web tattoo on his upper chest and neck.

The clerks said the man was dressed as a drag queen, wearing long brown wig, earrings, makeup and nail polish and was carrying a brown purse.

Anyone with any information on the identity of this suspect is asked to call Detective Andrew Stoinoff of the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office at 904-209-2148. You can also remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward by calling CrimeStoppers of N.E. Florida at 888-277-TIPS.
