JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The details of a new survey on Duval County Schools are out and they don't paint a pretty picture for Superintendent Nikolai Vitti.
The survey reveals that many teachers don't believe that their schools are good places to teach and learn, and that many teachers want to leave their current schools this year or next.
Vitti started the survey and although the results don't look good, he said it will allow him to make improvements to the district for students and teachers.
"Interestingly enough, that was a survey that I initiated because one of the things that I have brought to the district is transparency, that if we're not willing to address our problems then you never get into the solution," Vitti said.
Vitti said the survey also makes it clear that principals need to be more responsive
to meeting the needs of teachers.
Parents and grandparents aren't happy either. Ruth Chitty, a grandparent with two grandchildren at Oak Hill Elementary thinks it's a major problem.
"It's horrible. It's deplorable. I have a child that's gifted. I have a child that loved school. Right now, she doesn't even want to go there," said Chitty.
