Pilot in Georgia survives crash landing after mechanical failure

Witnesses: Pilot performed crash landing perfectly

CAMDEN COUNTY, Fla. – A pilot in Camden County had a terrible scare Wednesday afternoon when he was trying to land his plane and the landing gear refused to come down.

The pilot, flying a single-engine fixed wing Cessna registered to Dave's Air out of Fernandina Beach, was coming in for a landing when he realized there was a problem.

After figuring out that the landing gear was locked down, the pilot circled the landing strip at St. Marys Airport and decided to bring the plane down anyway a source said.

According to witnesses the pilot executed the hard landing perfectly, causing minimal damage to the plane and leaving the pilot unharmed.
