Teen dead, another in the hospital after shooting at a party

Many of the people who were there are First Coast High School students

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are asking for your help to find whoever shot two teenagers Friday night at a gathering of First Coast High School students on the Northside.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Jaquon Reeves was shot to death around 9:15 p.m. Friday. Another teen is in the hospital.

Officers said 25 to 30 people were at Sheffield Park on New Berlin Road when gunfire broke out and two teens were hit.

A resident who didn't want to be identified but lives near the park says he's tried numerous times to get the Sheriff's Office and the City to do something about the park.

"I had director for park system come out here to take a look at things that could prevent people from going back there. That was five months ago. I haven't heard back from that person. Obviously they haven't taken any steps to prevent kids from going back there. When I talked to park service and JSO I told them the same thing. Either invest a few thousand dollars out of your budget or someone's going to get ran over and they're going to sue you, or something's going to happen back there with kids and alcohol. Someone's going to get seriously injured," The resident said.

Police say many of the people at the gathering Friday night were juniors and seniors at First Coast High School and most of them knew Johnnel Johnnson, a 17-year-old football player shot and killed April 25 at an after-prom part.

Police don't believe Friday night's shooting was directly connected to Johnson's death. JSO says this shooting could be gang related.

Because most of the witnesses ran away when the shooting started, police are now asking for anyone with information to get in contact with them.

Anyone who has information about the shooting can call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 866-845-TIPS.
