The Jetta's right side struck the left side of the tractor-trailer, causing it to be pulled by the truck, according to FHP.

The driver of the Jetta, who has only been identified as a 21-year-old man, suffered critical injuries.

Two passengers were in the Jetta at the time of the crash. Gilbert Madrigal, 23, of Jacksonville, suffered serious injuries and Soyla Ortiz-Cabrera, 21, of Tampa, was killed.

Troopers said Martinez was not injured.
