JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The family of Tiphne Hollis said things have not gotten any easier in dealing with her death.
They say that knowing that her killer is still on the loose makes it hard to have closure.
"It's painful. some days it's like it happened yesterday. But now, I'm learning just to deal with the pain and just continue my life," said Tiphne Hollis' mother, Shanda Whitaker-Ward.
Family members and friends gathered this morning at the corner of Stockton st and Calvin st near where she was shot and killed in March of 2010.
The family believes she was shot in a case of mistaken identity.
"it's very frustrating. It's like how could you know about an innocent 16-year-old his life got taken in this community and not say anything about it," asked Whitaker-Ward.
On the 20th of every month since the shooting, the family has held walks, passing out flyers and talking to people in the area to try to get even just one person to come forward to investigators with information.
"We are just praying and hoping this morning this touches somebody's heart and they give us answers," said Whitaker-Ward.
Hollis' mother told me that it's hard to believe that it has already been over 5 years.
If you know anything about this shooting, you are asked to call crime stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
