Police: Man shot, beaten in robbery on Westside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was shot, beaten and robbed by three strangers Friday afternoon at a Westside apartment complex, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said a 22-year-old man was in hallway of building at the complex on Morse Avenue when he was approached by three black men in their early 20s. One pulled a gun and shot the victim once in the stomach. The victim told police that he then ran across the parking lot, and the three men chased him down, beat him and robbed him before taking off in small gray vehicle.

The victim told police he didn't know his attackers.

There were no witnesses to the incident, which happened about 4:30 p.m., police said.

The victim was in surgery but did not have life-threatening injuries and was expected to recover, police said.
