1 year later, no arrests in mom's killing

Jillian Berrios shot to death in front of Orange Park apartments

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Sunday marks one year since a mother was shot and killed as she sat in her car. Loved ones are asking the public for new tips that will lead to an arrest.

Jillian Berrios, 27, was sitting with another woman in her own car parked in front of the Park Place Apartments in Orange Park.

Police said a gunman walked up and shot Berrios to death. One year later, that gunman has not been identified.

A vigil was held Saturday to honor Berrios' life. Her friends said life without Berrios has not gotten any easier, especially for her kids.

"They wonder where mommy is. They wonder who did this to mom and there's no answers. You don't know how to answer these kids," said Zulma, Berrios' best friend.

"She's just an amazing person and she's no longer around, so it's hard for some of us," said Angelik, Berrios' friend.

As the days go on, her friends think about the person she was and the effect she had on others.

"She didn't judge people, it didn't matter where you came from. It didn't matter who you were or what was your past, she didn't judge no one. She just loved people," Zulma said.

As police still work on the case and search for new clues, Berrios' loved ones ask that those who know what happened search their hearts and give them the answers they desperately need.

"Set yourself free. Share your information and let us be free. So we can have closure," Zulma said.
