The Florida Highway Patrol said a pickup truck ran over a construction worker right after the driver said he was rear-ended by a semi-truck.

The crash occurred on State Road 200, just east of U.S. 17 in an area currently under construction.

News4Jax spoke with both drivers, who said they didn't have time to react to-- what they viewed as an abrupt call to stop by construction crews.

The driver in the pickup, Joe Hannan, was in front and said he was hit from behind causing the construction worker to be hit.

"He was pinned under my truck. I'm a firefighter, I tried to help him. Now I'm waiting on my tow truck to get my truck, I need to get it out. Yeah, I got hit in the back; look at my truck," Hannan said.

The good news is the construction worker will survive. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

It's unknown what his injuries were.

FHP is still trying to determine if anyone was at fault.
