Frank H. Peterson evacuated over bomb threat

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Duval County high school was evacuated early Tuesday morning because of a bomb threat that proved unsubstantiated, according to a Duval County Public Schools spokesman.

Authorities received a phoned bomb threat against Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology before school began, spokesman Mark Sherwood said.

All students and staff already on or near campus were evacuated and Duval County School Police and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office were alerted.

The school was searched and within an hour administrators were told the building was safe for students and school personnel to resume normal duties.

“We are very pleased with the responsiveness of the School Police Officers and Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, along with the full cooperation of students and staff, resulting in the realization that the threat was not substantiated,” Sherwood said.

An automated call went out to all parents, informing them of the situation, Sherwood said.

“We are very pleased with the responsiveness and cooperation of our students, staff and security teams at Peterson, and ask parents and caregivers to continue to remind their children about the roles they share in contributing to school safety,” Sherwood said.
