Man given 40-year sentence in 2012 murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Stanley Kelvin Merriweather, 33, was sentenced Friday to 40 years in prison for one count of second-degree murder. Merriweather pleaded guilty in April.

In October 2012, 30-year-old Glenn Adams and his friend were at Mascaras Gentlemen’s Club when Merriweather approached and began arguing with one of the employees. When the victim intervened, Merriweather pulled out a gun and fatally shot Adams in the chest.

Witnesses told police Merriweather approached Adams and some dancers and got into an altercation with one of the dancers over money. Police said Merriweather struck the dancer with his hand, and Adams then began throwing punches at Merriweather, who pulled out a gun and killed Adams.

Merriweather left the club, but turned himself later.

Merriweather has a lengthy criminal history.
