8 people indicted in Savannah gang investigation

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Eight residents of Savannah were charged with federal firearms and drug trafficking offenses, according to federal indictments unsealed in Georgia.

Law enforcement was investigating gang-related activities in the Savannah area, concentrating on the Carver Village Thoroughbreds gang.

The gang is comprised of 15 to 20 members involved in a number of crimes including shootings, robberies and trafficking narcotics.

Seven of the suspects appeared before a federal judge on Tuesday for arraignments and detention hearings.

  • Jermond Anderson Curtis, aka "Mon," 27
  • Adrian Tarazze Byrd, aka "Newie," 40
  • Shamon Antwon Williams, aka "Keith Anderson" and "Antonio Antwan Williams," 39
  • Eugene Curtis, aka "Gene," "Gene Williams," "Ronnie Curtis," and "Eugene Curtis Jr.," 50
  • Eusi Shango Sampson, 37
  • Felisha Dawn Byrd, 42

The indictments are the result of a joint investigation led by the FBI along with the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Chatham Narcotics Team and Chatham County Sheriff's Department.

U.S. Attorney Ed Tarver emphasized that an indictment is only an accusation and is not evidence of guilt. The Defendants are entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the Government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
