Police ID victim found on Spring Hammock Road

No description found

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police have identified a man whose body was found Tuesday along Spring Hammock Road on Jacksonville's Northside.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said it is investigating the death of Arnett Irving Rollins, 37, as a homicide, but investigators did not say how he died.

JSO Homicide Sgt. Michael Paul said a man was walking alongside the road Tuesday morning and saw a shoe on the road. He noticed that it was new and decided to look for the other shoe.

He found it in the bushes about 20 feet from the road still on Rollins' foot.

Traffic homicide detectives said that it does not appear Rollins was hit by a vehicle, despite his body's proximity to the road.

"Due to this being a roadway, we thought that there's a possibility that the individual could have been struck by a car. We have determined that the individual's injuries are consistent with a homicide, not a traffic homicide," Paul said. "At this point, I am not releasing what his injuries are due to the fact that we have not had anybody report anything suspicious in the area."

Investigators searched the heavily wooded area around the scene for any evidence, including the weapon used to kill Rollins.

Investigators believe Rollins' body had been there 24 to 48 hours.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
