Fred Gray, 75, of Manning, South Carolina, was trapped in a pickup truck that was involved in the crash. He was airlifted to the trauma center at UF Health Jacksonville, where he died.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Gray's truck was in the right shoulder of I-95. Gray then left the shoulder and crossed all southbound lanes. At some point, he passed in front of a semi. The semi hit Gray's pickup truck. The pickup crashed into the shoulder. The semi ended up hitting a guardrail and catching fire.

The semi driver, 31-year-old Bashir Sheikh, was taken to Flagler Hospital with serious burn injuries.

The lanes reopened just before 6:15 a.m.
