Georgia mom accused of giving baby beer

Deputies: Mom gave 1-year-old son beer at St. Augustine Amphitheatre

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A 24-year-old Jesup, Georgia, mother has been charged with child abuse after she was accused of giving her 1-year-old son beer Friday night at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.

Taylor Woodard denied the allegations from witnesses, saying that her son had picked up beer cups from the floor.

Woodard was charged with child abuse without causing great bodily harm and giving alcohol to a minor.

During a search after her arrest, deputies found marijuana on Woodard, and she was also charged with marijuana possession.

Woodard was taken to the St. Johns County Jail.

According to the arrest report, Woodard's son was taken to Flagler Hospital to be checked out as a precaution.

John Harrell, a spokesperson for the Department of Children and Families, said not only is it illegal for parents to allow their children to drink, but it's also dangerous.

"Obviously, alcohol can provide a major danger to children and if you're parents who condone or encourage alcohol use, that can encourage even more risky behavior for children that can lead to many other problems. So an incident like this is definitely a concern," Harrell said.

DCF was notified and took custody of the boy.
