JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 52-year-old man has been convicted of knowingly participating in an intentional car accident and making false insurance claims.
Olegario Hernandez Perez faces up to 20 years in prison. He will be sentenced the week of Nov. 29.

In May 2011, the State Attorney’s Office and the Division of Insurance Fraud began its investigation into a series of staged accidents in Duval County. The investigation revealed that Perez participated in one staged motor vehicle accident that occurred on Aug. 30, 2012, and later conspired with others to fraudulently bill his insurance company.
