Police: Woman gave boyfriend handgun to shoot man who tried to stop fight

Fight was in front of PipeLine Convenient Store on Moncrief Rd., 33rd St.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was charged with attempted murder Nov. 24 after she gave a pistol to her boyfriend to shoot a man who tried to break up a fight she was in outside of a Northside convenient store, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

At 11:20 p.m., Taylor Hunter, 23, was in a fight with William West outside the Pipeline Convenient Store on Moncrief Road and 33rd Street when West’s friend Stephen Green tried to break it up, police said.

While Green was trying to break up the fight, Montrell Williams and Hunter’s boyfriend, Hason Smiley, got out of a car parked nearby and approached him.

According to Hunter’s arrest report, West then drove away and Green proceeded to walk off. Smiley drove next to Green and asked him where he could find West. Green told Smiley that he didn’t know where West was and that he had nothing to do with the fight.

A few minutes later, Smiley drove back by Green and began firing shots at him, hitting him four times in the upper torso, police said.

Police said the investigation revealed that Hunter pulled a handgun from her purse and gave it to Smiley to shoot Green.

The investigation also revealed a video of Smiley walking into a residence on West 29th Street while holding a handgun about 11:30 p.m.

A witness told police that they saw Smiley shoot Green multiple times.

On Friday, when Hunter went to the police station to retrieve personal property, she was interviewed by homicide detectives, according to the arrest report. Hunter told police that she gave Smiley an unknown make and model handgun from her purse to shoot Green.

According to the arrest report, Green denied shooting Green. She is charged with attempted murder.
