JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 41-year-old man pleaded guilty Wednesday to eight charges stemming from the kidnapping and rape of a Jacksonville Beach woman and kidnapping of her family last year, and the kidnapping of the woman from the Westside.
Brian Fogarty was sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Investigators said Fogarty drove a stolen car from Clay County to the Jacksonville Beach area on July 24, sexually assaulted a woman at knifepoint at a small business; forced the victim into her car; drove her to her home; and kidnapped the woman's husband and two infant children and drove them to ATMs in Duval County, where he tried to withdraw money from their accounts.
According to his arrest report, the next day, Fogarty knocked on the door of a Westside home about 7 p.m. The woman who lived there said she was expecting someone else to come by, so she opened the door and saw a man with swollen eyes and scabs on his face.
The woman told police he forced his way inside, "pulled out a pocketknife," threatened to kill her with a hammer and then robbed her of jewelry and cash.
The report said he then dragged the victim by the hair and tied her hands and feet with an extension cord, put her into her red 2012 Toyota 4Runner and drove to an ATM about a mile away -- where he used her debit card to take out $300.
He then went and bought crack cocaine, and she told police he forced her to smoke with him, according to the report.
The report said Fogarty "drove into Clay County where he continued to terrorize" her before dropping her off in a wooded area off County Road 217 in the Middleburg area, near where he used to live.
Before leaving, he wrote down a woman's name and number and told the victim to call that woman and thank her for "the hell of the day that she had," the arrest report said.
The rampage ended when Fogarty, an ex-convict on supervised release, was captured July 26 about 7 p.m. during a traffic stop near the intersection of Main Street and 25th Street, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.
Investigators said Fogarty admitted to the crimes, saying his life had gone down the drain on July 4 because of another woman.
Fogarty went to prison in 2008 after being convicted for eluding police in Duval County. He was released in May. He has a long criminal record dating back to the 1990s, with dozens of arrests in Bradford, Clay, Duval, Marion and Seminole counties.
