JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man wanted on robbery and attempted murder charges, who barricaded himself in a hotel room Thursday, prompting a SWAT standoff, appeared in court Friday morning.

Police believed there was someone in the room with him and SWAT was called, along with negotiators.

Just before 2:30 p.m., the SWAT team broke down the door and Gaines was taken into custody. A woman who was in the room with him was taken for questioning, police said.

Gaines was charged with robbery and attempted murder in connection with an incident last year in which a victim was shot but survived. He is also charged with battery on a pregnant woman and false imprisonment in connection with the SWAT standoff.
