MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – With water rising from weeks of consistent, sometimes heavy rainfall, Clay County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service are closely monitoring rising water in the South Prong of Black Creek.
The South Prong has entered minor flood stage Wednesday, which caused the Weather Service to issue a flood warning for that area. Unless further significant rainfall is received, it should crest on the lower end of the scale in minor flood stage. But if the area receives any additional rainfall in the basin soon, it could drastically change that crest.

News4Jax meteorologist John Gaughan said Black Creek is very reactive to heavy rainfall, and the area had 6 inches in the past three days and 20 inches in the past two months. With no rainfall in the area Wednesday, he believes the creek has crested and should fall below flood levels quickly.
Clay County officials encourage residents to closely monitor the creek and local media for further information. Those in the flood-prone area are encouraged to register for alerts on the county's emergency management site.
