The crash was reported just after 9:30 a.m. on U.S. 301 at Southeast 203rd Street.

According to the Highway Patrol, Dodd was driving a Dodge Avenger south on U.S. 301 when it crossed the median.

As the Dodge began spinning in a clockwise rotation, troopers said, it was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado traveling north.

Trooper said Dodd died at the scene. The 54-year-old Keystone Heights man who was driving the Chevrolet suffered minor injuries.

Dodd's parents told News4Jax on Friday that their son was running an errand in the Gainesville area at the time of the crash.

The parents said Dodd was a good, smart kid who had just graduated from high school and was making plans to go to a small college to become a video game developer.

The Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
