ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A St. Johns County deputy is on the mend and back at work after being hurt in a line-of-duty motorcycle accident, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputy Anthony DeLeo was going west on State Road 210 near Cimarrone Boulevard in July 2017, when his motorcycle left the road and struck a tree. DeLeo, 49, was thrown off the bike and struck a concrete utility pole, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, deputies the community delivered thoughtful comments and prayers to him following the crash.

The Sheriff's Office said DeLeo suffered serious injuries and had a long road to what they hope will be a full recovery.

DeLeo was hospitalized for several more weeks and continued treatment in out-patient care.

The Sheriff's Office said DeLeo's spirit and tenacity is strong, forging ahead to get back to his passion of serving the community.

A GoFundMe account was set up to help with DeLeo's medical expenses as he continues to recover.
