JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The June triple murder of a Brunswick couple and their grandson appears to be a case of mistaken identity, according to the indictment of the man charged in their killings.

The indictment released Thursday said Roger Owens, 22, planned to break into the home of a rival gang member, who lived two doors down from the shooting victims.

Owens, initially charged with three counts of malice murder, now faces additional charges of home invasion, burglary, felony murder and violation of the street gang terrorism and prevention act.

Carson Holliman, 64, Vondell Holliman, 63, and grandson, Christopher Holliman, 24, were found shot to death June 18 inside their Wolfe Street home after not showing up for church.

Nearly four months later, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced that Owens was arrested Oct. 10 in connection with the family's deaths.

The identity mix-up is detailed in the gang offense information contained in the indictment. It said the intended target of the burglary was the victims' neighbor, a member of the Bloods street gang.

The Hollimans' neighbor previously spoke with News4Jax after learning of Owens' arrest. He said Owens occasionally stayed at a nearby home and that they had spoken before the arrest.

"I'm glad this case is closed and they picked him up because those people didn't deserve that," the neighbor said.
