SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A Seminole County high school teacher was arrested Thursday on allegations of having sex with a student multiple times at school.
Jaclyn Truman, 30, was arrested on two counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a minor between the age of 12 to 16 years old.
According to Seminole County Public Schools, Truman resigned from Lake Howell High School on Thursday, but the alleged sexual contact with the student occurred in 2016 when Truman was a long-term substitute at Hagerty High School.
Seminole County sheriff's deputies said an investigation started earlier this month when a 15-year-old girl disclosed that she and Truman were involved in a consensual sexual relationship last year.
The girl said she and Truman had sex with each other five to 10 times during their two-month relationship. The incidents happened in a school classroom, Seminole County Sheriff's Office public information officer Bob Kealing said.
“That’s where you would expect this to be a safe zone for this child and instead that trust was violated,” Kealing said. “And that’s why we are especially concerned about this because it’s brazen in nature and we’re concerned that there potentially could be other victims here”
Investigators then conducted a recorded interview with Truman, who cooperated with the investigation, deputies said.
Based on the interview with Truman and the victim’s statement, Truman was arrested and taken to the John E. Polk Correctional facility. Her bond was set at $40,000.
School officials said Truman worked as an instructional assistant at Lyman High School from November 2005 to October 2008. She taught at Lyman High from October 2008 to December 2013 before resigning to take a position at Asbury Theological Seminary as Coordinator for Mentored and Pastoral Counseling.
Truman was a long-term substitute at Hagerty High from November 2015 to May 2016, and she was a part-time American Sign Language teacher at Lake Howell High from August to October, officials said. Truman resigned Friday from the school district.
She has no previous criminal history or employee misconduct, school officials said.
Truman marks the fifth sexual misconduct arrest at Hagerty High School since 2014, records show.
The FBI arrested Greg Vaughn, a social studies teacher, in 2015 on allegations of enticing a teen to engage in sexual conduct and production of child pornography. William Nordin, a special education teacher, was arrested in May 2014 on sex assault charges. Michael Fitzwater, a teacher's aide, was arrested in September 2014 on charges of unlawful sexual contact with a minor. William Gierke, the dean at Hagerty, was charged in February 2015 with soliciting prostitution.
"Another one? That's about the 5th in 5 years or so," Hagerty High School parent Paul Callow said. "The law states I got to send them to school so you would expect with the background checks and what the teachers are supposed to be doing...not this."
Anyone with information about Truman is asked to call the Seminole County Sheriff's Office at 407-665-6650.
