JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 14-year-old was killed Monday night on Rutledge Pearson Drive, not far from the Washington Heights Apartments.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was called to the area around 9:37 p.m. and found the teen, later identified as Darryl Lamar Johnson, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Algin Robinson, who lives in the area, said he was inside his home when he heard a gunshot.
“I didn’t think anything of it because there have been so many gunshots in this area," Robinson said.
Robinson said 30 minutes after he heard the gunshot, he heard noises outside his front door. When he went outside, he found Johnson on the ground and called 911.
"I was like, 'Look, you all need to hurry up and get here. There's a teenager shot outside my house,'" Robinson said.
Johnson was taken to the hospital where he died. A memorial sits where Johnson was found wounded.
One of Johnson's friends said Johnson regularly visited relatives who live nearby. She said she doesn't believe Johnson had any enemies and doesn't understand why he was killed.

3rd person under 18 shot, killed in 2018
By News4Jax record, Johnson is the 49th person shot and killed in Duval County in 2018. He's also the third person under the age of 18 to be shot and killed in Duval County in 2018.
On May 21st, Marquette Clark, 16, was shot to death. His body was found on Moncrief Road.
On February 18, Tashawn Gallon, 7, was playing outside when he was shot in the middle of a gun battle. He died at the hospital.

No arrests have been made in any of the three cases. MAD DADS President Donald Foy said the killers won't be brought to justice until people with information come forward to police.
"Until the community takes a stand, and start telling what they know, it’s going to continue to happen,” Foy said.
Foy also pointed out that parents have to do their part.
"Parents have got to know where their children are," said Foy. "It’s like what Channel 4 says on a Saturday night, 'Do you know where your kids are and who they’re with?'”
Week of violence
This is the sixth shooting in that area in the last four days. It comes just a day after two people, a 17-year-old boy and 37-year-old man, were shot at the Kings Ridge Apartments. They were shot less than 24 hours after a triple shooting at the same apartment complex.
On Friday, one person was found shot several times on West 29th Street near North Lee Street.
Jacksonville police have not publicly announced arrests in any of the shootings.
This incident is also the latest shooting in less than a week involving teenagers. On June 5, three other teenagers were shot an killed on Town Center Parkway.
