JSO: Mother killed during triple shooting in Brentwood

Search for gunman in deadly triple shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A mother was killed Sunday during a triple shooting in Jacksonville's Brentwood neighborhood.

Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said two of her children were inside the home when she was gunned down.

The shooting took place on North Pearl Street, a few blocks north of Martin Luther King Junior Parkway just before midnight.

The woman, who was identified by an uncle as Victoria Wyche, and two other people were sitting outside the home on the front porch when a group of people walked by, according to JSO.

Investigators said words were exchanged before a man in the group started shooting. All three individuals were hit and taken to the hospital. Wyche, who has three children, did not survive the shooting.

The two other victims were later released and interviewed by police.

Several witnesses were in the area when gunfire rang out. One resident who lives a few blocks away said he has lived in the neighborhood for more than four decades. He's surprised to hear this happened so close to home.

“I can’t believe it. There’s a church on the corner, right on the corner. There’s a church on that side of the street and a church on this side of the street. As a matter of fact there’s one on 25th and Perry Street. All these churches and all this violence. Unnecessary," said the neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the JSO non-emergency number at (904) 630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.

This is the latest incident adding to an already violent weekend.
