Man shot inside downtown Jacksonville nightclub identified by police

Police say a fight broke out inside De Real Ting before the shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was shot inside the De Real Ting Café on West Adams Street early Saturday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Paul Steney, 28, was shot in the back inside of the nightclub around 3:30 a.m., according to detectives. After he was shot, officers say the man ran outside of the club and two people drove him to University of Florida Health Jacksonville. The victim was in stable condition at last check.

Steney told police that he was in the club for about an hour then heard some women behind him yelling. He said he heard a gunshot, realized he was shot and left the club to get help. He said he did not see who shot him.

Investigators say there was a fight inside of the club, but the victim denied any involvement in the altercation. Officers ask anyone with information about the shooting to call 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
